Peter Cherif Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

Published: 2024-10-03

Peter Cherif, a key figure in the 2015 Charlie Hebdo attack, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a special court in Paris.

The court found him guilty of being the "architect" behind the attack that resulted in the deaths of 12 people.

Cherif was also convicted for his involvement in the kidnapping of three humanitarian workers in Yemen in 2011. The court emphasized the severity of his crimes and his ongoing threat to society, imposing a minimum security period of 22 years.

Despite maintaining his silence during much of the trial, Cherif denied direct involvement in the Charlie Hebdo attack.

Prosecutors described him as a "complete jihadist" and a central figure in planning the attack.
