Mehdi Nemmouche, a former member of the Islamic State, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a 22-year minimum term by a Paris court.

Nemmouche was found guilty of being a jailer for Western hostages in Syria in 2013 and 2014. He had previously been convicted for a deadly attack on the Jewish Museum in Brussels in 2014. During the trial, Nemmouche denied being a jailer but admitted to being a terrorist, showing no remorse for his actions.

The court also sentenced other co-accused, including Abdelmalek Tanem and Kaïs Al-Abdallah, to lengthy prison terms.

Victims and former hostages described Nemmouche as a sadistic and manipulative figure.

The verdict aims to ensure society's protection from his actions.
