A tragic rockslide occurred on the RD 94 road near Nyons in the Drôme region, resulting in the death of a woman on Saturday.
The incident happened late in the morning when a massive 15 cubic meter rockfall struck the vehicle of a couple in their sixties.
The driver managed to escape the vehicle and alert emergency services, but his companion was trapped and unfortunately pronounced dead by the time rescuers reached her.
The driver, though lightly injured, was in shock and has been hospitalized.
The road has been closed indefinitely in both directions as authorities conduct a geological assessment of the cliff to determine when it might be safe to reopen.
The couple was originally from Isère, and the local prefecture is overseeing the investigation into the incident.
