Avicenne College Faces Legal Setback

Published: 2024-08-16

The Avicenne Muslim College in Nice, France, has faced a legal setback in its ongoing efforts to secure a contract with the state.

On August 15, the administrative court in Nice rejected the college's urgent appeal for state association, citing a lack of urgency as the college's enrollment numbers were rising and its sustainability was not at risk.

This decision follows a previous court ruling that overturned a closure order by the prefecture, which had accused the college of financial opacity under the 2021 separatism law.

Despite improvements in facilities, including sports and science labs, the college's request for state funding was denied due to budget constraints.

The college, which opened in 2015, has repeatedly sought state contracts to ease financial burdens and improve student access to public resources.

Currently, many students transfer to public schools to benefit from continuous assessment for their diplomas.
