Severe Weather Alert in France

Published: 2024-09-07

Météo-France has issued an orange alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms across several departments in France, including the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Ardèche, Drôme, Dordogne, Corrèze, Haute-Vienne, and Creuse.

The alert is due to significant rainfall expected to continue from Saturday afternoon into Sunday.

In the Hautes-Pyrénées, rainfall has already exceeded 100 millimeters, with some areas like Gavarnie receiving up to 170 millimeters.

The situation is particularly severe near the Spanish border, where rainfall could reach between 150 to 250 millimeters.

Météo-France warns that these conditions could lead to flooding, especially in mountainous regions.

Residents are advised to remain cautious as the weather system moves eastward, potentially affecting other regions with brief but intense storms.
